Tips for beginner perfumers. A review from Sunday21.

It is a sin to think that perfumers are born. No one is given the gift of a special sensitive sense of smell, all the best perfumers are ordinary people. All people accumulate their olfactory experience throughout their lives. If you get acquainted each time with new aromatic ingredients, it will not train your receptors, but will contribute to the development of the thought process that will link your sense of smell and the ability to recognize the scent from the multitude. We often unknowingly become acquainted with new scents, but in order to recognize them, you must first of all indulge in describing them and the feelings they evoke. As we know, it is not as easy to describe fragrances as it may seem at first sight. Of course, it is easier to identify the source - orange, flower, smoke. In turn, try to give fragrances other, more abstract definitions, for example, the perfume can be strict, capricious, funny, sticky, etc. Also associate it with sounds, color, taste and texture, when your personal associations are involved, you will remember it more quickly.

Nuances in the work of a novice perfumer.

We advise you never to inhale the scent of materials in a pure form or from the container itself. In the purest form, many synthesized materials and essential oils have a strong enough scent and concentration. To understand it, you need to dilute it, sometimes 10 times, and sometimes even up to 1 percent. Know that inhaling it in its purest form is sometimes even dangerous for health. Some substances are heavy enough to hear their scent, but after dilution with alcohol, they become more volatile and fall directly into the olfactory receptors. Know that the sense of smell has the ability to quickly adapt to different smells, so we advise you when you inhale the various aromatic ingredients quickly determine their feelings and get a lot of information, because soon the sense of smell will become weaker and you will need to be left alone with their smell.
